Abstract

The year 2000 is the tenth anniversary of Investors in People. The past decade has seen a dramatic change in the business landscape of the UK. Service industries, such as call centres, are replacing a traditional manufacturing base that is facing mounting pressure to remain competitive. Leicestershire is representative of this change, and manufacturing organisations are being forced to find new ways to gain and maintain a competitive advantage. Developing people is one way of creating this advantage. Focusing on a local business, who are recognised Investors in People, this article illustrates how manufacturing firms can remain successful in a challenging market.
