Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this editorial is to introduce this special issue on library and information technology (IT) mergers.

Design/methodology/approach

The editorial discusses whether libraries are delivering added value in their approach to IT and introduces select examples from this field. It also introduces the special issue articles by indicating what subjects are to be covered.

Findings

The editorial finds ten models of technology innovation which it suggests are delivering added value in the library field.

Originality/value

The editorial provides useful examples of technology innovation in libraries.
