Abstract

An initial search for smoking or tobacco‐related Internet sites provides the individual with a plethora of anti‐smoking sites, as well as a few pro‐tobacco sites. The types of materials found range from factsheets on tobacco and health, to digitally scanned, confidential tobacco industry documents, to smoking‐cessation tools and tips. However, along with the authoritative, solid information is a seemingly endless selection of other, less‐dependable sites that will be retrieved on even the best‐constructed Internet searches. Except for one Web page sprung from a popular bulletin board system, all Web pages included are connected in some way to organizations, institutions, or agencies. The sites are divided roughly into four categories: legal sites, health sites, activism sites, and health organizations. Other interesting sites are referred to in the text and URLs are included.
