Abstract
States that science and technology skills are the key to knowledge based, sustainable economic development, but the production of graduates is insufficient in many countries both in quality and quantity. Suggests that this may be improved by greater female participation. Investigates the recruitment issues in this area in Indonesia and China. Concludes that the number of women in further education today will influence recruitment of future academic staff and in China’s case, this could lead to a more male dominated environment.
