Abstract

Diversifying in order to make sales has proved successful for L. Gent, specialist in automatic sewing machines which initially served the shoe industry. Describes how the company now distributes industrial sewing machines and associated equipment for Brother and Mitsubishi, as well as providing machines for webbing stitching, car seat belts, slings for helicopters and sewing car airbags. Computers and vision systems now assist in the automation of sewing, and Israeli company Orisol offers the system SEE.N.SEW, which utilizes CCD cameras when stitching shoe uppers.
