Relates an interview with Merle Jacob, an adult materials selection specialist at the Chicago Public Library. Describes the selection process for materials, reference collection, audio‐visual and other areas for the Chicago Public Library and 82 branches of different sizes. Suggests that information retrieval on disk will not exclude the physical book.
