Abstract

The Internet home is a recent innovation in home automation, which makes home monitoring and control accessible to homeowners from anywhere, any time, by connecting to the global network. With the wide spread use of the Internet, the Internet home has been increasingly popular among developers and homeowners. In Asia, however, its development is relatively limited. Private developers, unaware of homebuyers’ perceptions of the new concept, are reluctant to deliver a home that is truly Internet enabled. The purpose of this study is to examine condominium homebuyers’ perceptions of the Internet home and its applications, as well as the factors that influence their decisions to accept or reject the Internet home concept. Key findings reveal that the Internet home is well received by the majority of homebuyers. It is found that homebuyers’ demographic profiles, technological orientation and individual perception play a major part in influencing their decisions to live in the Internet home.
