Abstract

Carello Lighting is a leading manufacturer of vehicle lighting, operating within a highly competitive market. Three years ago the business embarked on a total quality improvement programme developed with the assistance of the Price Waterhouse Group. Compares the objectives of the total quality improvement programme as identified by the management team and as seen by others within the firm. Discusses specific total quality (TQ) tools and the ways in which these tools have been adopted since their introduction. Discusses the changes resulting from the TQ implementation from the perspective of the management team, staff at Carello and perhaps most importantly, the customer. Comments on ways in which the programme has been effective and areas where there is scope for improvement. Illustrates how Carello Lighting has realized significant benefits from the TQ programme, enabling the company to move closer to its mission of being best in class.
