Abstract

Purpose

To inform readers how creativity and fresh ideas can aid an established institution to meet specialized information needs.

Design/methdology/approach

This is an introduction to a new library at an established aquarium that is now engaged with a new mission, leadership and is doing a variety of outreach activities.

Findings

New ideas are really the key to success in this virtual library visit. The librarian is seeking to renew the role of service and outreach by building the collection and giving the institution and library a more digital identity.

Practical implications

Reinforcing a positive approach to service, preservation and archival standards while building a core collection is essential.

Originality/value

Provides information of value to library management.
