Abstract
Purpose
Describes Group 4 Securicor's global‐leadership program, a structured career‐development program that is based on Manchester University's executive MBA but also has courses run by senior G4S executives.
Design/methodology/approach
Outlines the content of the five residential sessions that form the backbone of the program, and the initiatives that foster a true learning community throughout its two‐year duration.
Findings
Reveals that the program draws heavily on the G4S leadership competencies framework, which incorporates the concept of capability and emphasizes long‐range thinking and the need for business leaders to simplify the complex.
Practical implications
Describes a program that seems to constitute a space, a framework, a process and an opportunity in which people can learn and develop.
Originality/value
Accepts that the program cannot provide all the answers, and highlights the importance of “decent doubt”.
