Opinions and loyalty among European motoring journalists
Abstract
British journalists have long been considered to be more critical than journalists in other countries. This paper examines whether that belief is correct when applied to motoring writers in the UK in comparison with French, German, Italian and Spanish counterparts. The proposition is not supported by the evidence. The paper also tests, and finds reasonable evidence to support, the proposition that UK motoring journalists, like their colleagues from France, Germany, Italy and Spain, are more likely to produce reports which generate positive impact about products from their home countries – favouritism exists.
