Abstract

The Circle arts centre in Worksop started out 15 years ago as a small rehearsal and recording facility above a youth club. Today it is significant performance and participatory arts venue, attracting artists from around the world. Enter The Circle and you will discover that the running of the arts centre goes hand in hand with a non‐stigmatised, open access volunteering and work experience opportunity for people with mental health problems and others at risk of exclusion. Andy Whitehouse explains how they have created a safe and supportive, if somewhat hectic, environment where creativity thrives.
