Involving Users and Carers in Developing Standards for Mental Health Services for Older People
Abstract
Consensus groups were held, two with users and one with carers, to refine standards for evaluation of mental health services for older people. The main issues of concern were the role of general practitioners, organisation of transport, consistency in the input of the various disciplines, communication with users and carers in in‐patient care, complaints and the facility to have care workers in the home. The paper describes the steps taken in preparing for and carrying out the discussions, and the way in which the standards were revised.
