Compositional Standards and Labelling
Abstract
Explores some of the arguments for, and against, compositional standards and reserved names, and the alternative labelling, some of which is often overlooked by protagonists. In doing so, some of the claims for the supremacy of labelling as an aid to the consumer and as a trade protection measure are critically examined. The needs and perceptions of consumers and the attitudes of enforcement agencies to enforcing food labelling laws are also discussed.
