Abstract

Speculates that, recently, end‐user systems have grown relatively uncontrollable, beyond IT support scope and at end‐user discretion. Predicts that date logic problems are likely to affect all PCs in one way or another, believing that over 90 percent of PCs bought prior to 1997 will fail at the hardware level. Hopes that the mid‐1998 survey of companies, which showed only 20 percent were tackling the desktop problem, has now become much higher.
