Abstract

Developments in multimedia publishing from interactive video in the early 1980s to compact discs in the late 1980s and the 1990s phenomena of the Web and DVD (Digital Versatile (or Video) Disc) are outlined in this paper. In addition, an overview of market research reports in this area is provided which is based on the author’s compilation of a directory of such reports. The concluding section summarises some of the main findings of these reports. Links are given to web sites of relevant market research companies.
