Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to review the latest management developments across the globe and pinpoint practical implications from cutting-edge research and case studies.

Design/methodology/approach

This briefing is prepared by an independent writer who adds his/her own impartial comments and places the articles in context.

Findings

Patient safety and quality of care remain among the biggest challenges to health-care organizations. Past research has looked at how the safety culture within a hospital setting can be improved. This paper uses a multi-level model to look at how direct and indirect factors can affect safety outcomes. The model shows that factors work in combination; teamwork and continual learning, support, adequate staffing levels, and making safety a priority at management levels all lead to improved patient safety and decreased risk.

Originality/value

The paper saves busy executives and researchers hours of reading time by selecting only the very best, most pertinent information and presenting it in a condensed and easy-to-digest format.
