Continued international growth in the automotive industry has led Schenck Pegasus ­ the test and automation division of Cad Schenck AG ­ to invest some £3.2 million to build a multipurpose premises at Püttlingen, Saarland, Germany. Operations from Schenck's three existing locations in Saarland will be consolidated at the new building to increase efficiency and performance.

Some 300 employees will be based at the new facility, which was finished in October 1998 ­ only nine months after work on the site commenced. In addition, Schenck Pegasus has a further 470 employees at German sites in Darmstadt and Chemnitz. Worldwide the company employs more than 1,100 employees with a turnover of DM330 million in 1997. In the UK, Schenck Pegasus sales, engineering support and manufacturing operations are based in Banbury, Oxfordshire.

"With this investment, Schenck wants to put on record that it is a modern, global company with a strong and secure future", said Frank Haun, managing director of Schenck Pegasus.

Schenck Pegasus is a major supplier of advanced products to the automotive industry including test systems for engines, transmissions, components, vehicle and exhaust emissions, along with assembly and filling technology and complete end-of-line production test systems.
