This book is suitable for both practising engineers and undergraduate students who are studying materials science, chemistry or engineering. Structural Adhesive Joints in Engineering covers all aspects of design, materials selection and testing that an engineer requires in order to produce adhesively bonded joints which can carry significant loads.

The text describes the necessary chemistry and mechanics for each case presented and gives details of the associated advantages and disadvantages. This ensures that an informed choice of adhesive can be made for a particular application.

After an introductory chapter the nature and magnitude of stresses in adhesive joints are discussed. Chapter 3 addresses design considerations, while chapter 4 gives a critical description of standard mechanical test procedures for destructively and non-destructively testing adhesives.

Chapters 5 and 6 discuss the general properties of polymeric adhesives and the selection of structural adhesives, respectively. Surface preparation (by physical or chemical methods) and characterisation are covered in chapter 7. The final chapter of the book discusses service conditions and covers topics including time-to-failure under static loading, cycles to failure, water durability and timber joints.

The Appendix includes Standard International, British and American specifications for testing adhesives.

Overall this is a very good book which is both informative and interesting.
