Softing announces latest Profibus software

Keywords: Computer software, Profibus

Softing has become one of the first companies to supply the next generation of Profibus protocol fieldbus software.

Profibus-DP V2 enhances Profibus DP by providing additional features such as data exchange broadcast (DXB – i.e. direct communication between DP slaves), plus extremely fast and deterministic process data exchange and clock synchronization.

The new software meets the requirements of different industrial sectors: for factory automation with very fast cycle times (< 1ms) it is highly deterministic and accurate; for continuous processes in process automation there are online reconfiguration services and enhanced safety services including redundancy. The software is optimised for use with the Siemens ASPC2 ASIC to guarantee conformance with the Profibus standard and provide the highest performance.

Tens of thousands of field devices use Softing's Profibus technology today. Softing is a member of all important fieldbus associations and has been active in national and international standardization work for many years. The diverse range of Softing's protocol implementations enables field device vendors to easily develop fieldbus interfaces. Softing can also provide customising support.

Softing has also developed its own PC-based automation platform called 4Control, which offers IEC61131-3 compliant engineering, a stand-alone Web-literate soft control system, a powerful integrated HMI and fieldbus connectivity. More than 300 4Control systems are in use Europe-wide – in factory, process and building automation applications.

Softing's software products are marketed in the UK by Tellima Technology of Huddersfield.
