Institute of Materials award for British Steel manager

A product technology manager at British Steel Engineering Steels has been named by the Institute of Materials as the winner of the prestigious Stokowiec Medal.

The medal is awarded to Hugh Everson in recognition of his "distinguished work relating to the technical, manufacturing, processing or engineering application of alloy steels". In the course of a career in the steel industry spanning 35 years, Hugh has developed high integrity steel solutions for some of industry's most demanding applications, including aerospace, power generation, offshore and bearings.

Says Dr Gwyn Davies, technical director at British Steel Engineering Steels:

This award recognises the considerable contribution that Hugh has made not only within Engineering Steels but to the industry as a whole. He has been at the forefront of the development of a number of innovative new steels which are meeting some of the toughest performance challenges in modern engineering.

Hugh Everson (BSc, CEng, MIM, FIQA) joined the company as an assistant metallurgist in 1964 having graduated from Birmingham University with a degree in Metallurgy.
