A specialty stainless steel that is said to provide high strength, fracture toughness, and resistance to stress corrosion cracking has been developed by Carpenter Technology Corp., Reading, Pennsylvania. Carpenter custom 465 stainless is a premium melted martensitic, age-hardenable alloy, which is claimed to have less sensitivity to process parameters than other high-strength, precipitation-hardening steels.

The alloy is capable of 1,800MPa (260ksi) ultimate tensile strength when peak aged (H900 condition). In this condition, it reportedly retains higher notched tensile strength and fracture toughness than other PH grades.
