New stoving enamel offers cost-effective route to compliance

Now available from Kemira Coatings is a new range of high-solids stoving enamels which produce a quality, durable finish within EPA Guidance Note PG6/23 requirements, and without costly alteration to existing application equipment.

Tematherm HS low-solvent stoving finishes range is said to meet the 350gm per litre limit for VOCs which came into effect in April 1998. It is believed to be ideally suited to electrostatic bell or disc, as well as other more conventional methods of application including HVLP. Its atomisation performance produces a film thickness comparable with conventional stoving enamels, with improved flow which in turn further enhances the aesthetic properties of the finish.

Kemira states that because its performance in production does not rely on thinning, there is no risk of specified VOC levels being exceeded.

A further advantage claimed in the workplace is that overspray is non-sticky, making clean-up and maintenance easier. Tematherm's moderate odour, surface preparation requirements, flexible processing requirements, and stoving time and temperature are comparable with those of conventional products.

Kemira has already gained considerable experience with Tematherm HS in applications such as shelving, racking and office furniture. The company offers customers comprehensive technical service and support including plant audits, process reports, and troubleshooting. Full scale trials can be conducted either in situ or at Kemira's technical centre in West Bromwich, where a fully conveyorised high speed bell and disc plant is available.

Kemira can supply its Tematherm HS range in all BS 4800 and most RAL and NCS colours at any gloss level, and will also readily customise the product to users' specific requirements.

To meet the bulk needs of high-volume customers Kemira operates a dedicated stocking system to ensure a rapid response to production requirements. Lower volume users can obtain Kemira's products from the countrywide Goldspeed network of specialist distributors, offering a high level of application support and rapid colour matching facilities.
