Self-coatable ACE finish

Keywords Kemira, Coatings

Kemira Coatings reports that it has developed an enhancement to its Temadur HS, which it claims will enable this high-solids two-component polyurethane topcoat for ACE applications to be overcoated with itself without costly surface preparation (Plate 5).

The new coating is thought to save time for manufacturers wishing to use Temadur HS as an intermediate and top coat. It claims to particularly help manufacturers painting in two tones or colours, enabling them to apply the first colour overall, cure, mask, and then simply overspray as recquired with the second colour.

There are believed to be savings when it comes to repair. Instead of flatting complete panels for respray, repairers will, it is claimed, be able to mask off sound paintwork and simply respray the damaged area.

Development of the new Temadur HS is part of an ongoing programme to extend the options for ACE manufacturers. The new formulation becomes standard throughout the Temadur HS range, which is available in the full range of RAL and BS 4800 colours and can also be customised to users' special requirements.

Temadur HS claims enhanced gloss and distinction of image, and durability. Kemira suggests that energy costs can be cut by curing Temadur HS at a lower temperature. It is also said to dry faster, allowing finished panels to be processed immediately following force drying.

Kemira's flexible systems for ACE applications claim to be the first to offer a genuine choice between EPA-compliant water-based and solvent-based primers to match users' processing requirements. Developed for some of the leading players in the ACE market, they are now available to manufacturers of any size, backed by a total support service embracing product formulation, commissioning, process optimisation and monitoring.
