Vacuum drying ovens with additional corrosion protection

Keywords Heraeus, Kendro, Ovens, Corrosion prevention

Kendro informs us that the standard equipment and fittings of the Heraeus vacuum drying ovens have now been notably improved. The latest models in the vacutherm 6000 series now have improved corrosion protection and a built-in inert gas connection, as well as being even easier to clean. These additional features are thought to be particularly advantageous when working with aggressive media.

The use of 1.4571 stainless steel (V4A) for the workspace walls is said to make these appliances more corrosion-resistant than ever before. The ball valve is also made of stainless steel, so the parts which come into contact with the media are continuously protected on the vacuum side. As a result, these drying ovens are believed to be more resistant and to have long-lasting reliability.

From now onwards Heraeus vacutherm drying ovens will also be fitted with an inert gas connection as standard. The built-in fine-metering valve not only ensures constant control of the inert gas feed (nitrogen, for example), it can also be used for gentle ventilation when working with powders. A ventilation valve is also useful for rapid ventilation of the workspace.

Appliance doors are double-glazed using safety glass, reportedly making them implosion-proof. When inert gas is being used at pressures above atmospheric, a safety valve prevents the build-up of excessively high pressure levels in the working space.

All vacutherm models are said to have very good thermal behaviour and are reportedly highly reliable. Efficient heat transfer ensures short lead times for operating temperatures. These range between 200 and 400°C, depending on the model.

There is a choice of 53- or 128-litre internal capacity.

A special version, the VT 6000 BL, is available specifically for the heat treatment of products containing flammable solvents (Plate 13). According to Kendro, the vacuum design principle makes it impossible for an explosive gas mixture to build up in the appliance.
