Heavy duty grades of Plascoat's PPA571 thermoplastic coating – said to be ideal for corrosion protection of pipes and fittings applications in the water and aqueous chemicals industries – have been launched.

PPA571H for fluidised bed dipping and PPA571HES for electrostatic spraying have been developed with a claimed higher melt viscosity than standard PPA571, giving the formulations the higher resilience sometimes required by coaters handling thicker metal sections of more than 5mm.

The 30 per cent improvement in impact strength claimed translates into improved resistance to chipping by stones, heavy or sharp metal objects, while both versions are said to offer an impressive elongation to break point of 500 per cent and an extended temperature range that makes the coatings suitable for the harshest of conditions.

The Plascoat PPA571 series is now made up of standard PPA571 and PPA571ES, and the new PPA571H and PPA571HES, each a polyolefin based alloy applied in a single shot without the need for a primer, yet still considered to provide excellent long-term adhesion. Other properties claimed include an excellent resistance to pollutants.

The standard PPA571 coatings are said to have won approvals from a large section of the international water industry and the support of the wider construction market, fencing and leisure equipment manufacturers over the course of the decade.

The new PPA571 options are believed to mean even greater cost-saving opportunities for coaters serving the water industry. Already in receipt of EC approval and the specific support of the German, UK and Belgian control agencies, Plascoat recently won approval from the highly influential DWI for the electrostatic spray (ES) version of PPA571.
