European Welding Federation's education and qualification system goes international

Keywords: IIW, EWF, Training, Welding

The International Institute of Welding (IIW) and the European Welding Federation (EWF) have agreed to a single education and qualification system for welding personnel.

TWI is a major force within both IIW and EWF and has been working with both bodies to introduce a single syllabus for each type of training course, and a central system of examination control, so that the same qualification may be awarded in any country.

This development is believed to be an important step forward which will benefit all in the welding industry. Welding personnel will be able to hold qualifications recognised world-wide, thus enhancing their job mobility and increasing the status of their profession.

To administer the scheme and to develop it further, the IIW has established the International Authorisation Board (IAB). This board publishes guidelines for training syllabuses and examinations and implements the QA system controlling the scheme.
