Galvaplex – anti-corrosion coating system

Galvaplex – anti-corrosion coating systemKeywords: Anochrome, Coatings

Anochrome informs us that Galvaplex was developed specifically to meet the high demands of "fastener coating performance" for the onshore and offshore pipeline and industry. The company considers it perfect for potable water applications or for the more corrosive petrochemical and processing industries.

Galvaplex is a Duplex (two stage) process:

  1. 1.

    Galvanised zinc base coat.

  2. 2.

    Highly visible coloured organic topcoat.

The galvanised zinc and the organic topcoat are said to create a high performance anti-corrosion coating which provide a powerful "sacrificial and barrier protection combination" for the steel substrate; any degradation of the tough barrier coating is countered by the sacrificial protection of the galvanised zinc base coat.

Galvaplex is a non-embrittling coating so it reportedly does not affect the coated component's inherent strength and performance characteristics.

The organic topcoat is said to provide a reliable coefficient of friction enabling precise fastener torque/tension relationships, and even on subsequent reuses the coating will provide reliable performances.

Although Galvaplex was developed as a fastener coating primarily, it can be applied to all small to medium sized forgings, castings and machined parts, in fact it is claimed that Galvaplex will give long term protection to all steel components whether in conventional or extreme environments.

Typical neutral salt spray performances are reported to be of 2,000 hours and above.

Galvaplex is stated to meet the Water Industry's Specification WIS 4-52-03 and is WRc approved – PT/1260101.
