Archco-Rigidon protection for tanker hose couplings

Keywords: Corrosion resistance, Coatings

Dunlop Oil & Marine Ltd of Grimsby, UK, regularly manufacture Dunlop double carcass floating hoses, together with steel couplings, for the discharge of crude oil or refined products from tankers to mono buoys. The most recent contract was to supply two 24in. pipes (hoses) and three 16in pipes, plus steel couplings, to be used by an international oil company for the discharge of crude oil at 50°C from tankers off the Canadian coast.

As a resault of very satisfactory use over the past twelve months, Winn & Coales' Archco- Rigidon 403D lining was again specified to protect the steel coupling interiors. This is a vinyl ester based flake glass filled coating claiming excellent corrosion/erosion resistance in highly corrosive environments.

The Archco-Rigidon 403D lining is applied by local contractors, Impcon Ltd of Grimsby, UK. After grit-blasting to SA21/2 standard, Impcon brush applied five coat of Archco- Rigidon 403D (it is also stated to be suitable for spray application). The lining was then checked with a film thickness gauge to ensure a thickness of 1 mm.
