PFA-lined ball valve for clean room and high purity use

Keywords: Environment, Cleanliness, Corrosion

Environmental cleanliness is paramount in pharmaceutical and semiconductor clean rooms, where atmospheric purity is as important as process hygiene. A new range of PFA-lined, stainless steel- bodied ball valves from Corrosion Resistant Products Limited (CRP) is said to be designed for process industry applications such as these - and for other highly corrosive environments.

Reliability and safety are also key issues in process plant that is subject to frequent solvent and chemical cleaning regimes. CRP's Atostar full port valves have a blow out-proof stem construction that is reportedly effective even in the unlikely event of the top works being dismantled in service. PTFE reverse chevron packing rings in a deep stuffing box provide a dynamic seal, claiming long- term protection against fugitive emissions.

The range features stainless steel, investment cast valve bodies. These are lined with a thick coating of PFA, which is mechanically locked in place by T-slots and locking grooves, claiming unsurpassed performance, under full vacuum conditions. CRP asserts that it also makes the valves eminently suitable for a range of process conditions from -29°C up to 200°C, and pressures up to 19.6 bar. Tight manufacturing tolerances are said to reduce body cavity space to a minimum, lessening the risk of product cross-contamination problems.

The use of PTFE stem seal packing, and integrated PTFE/graphite bushing on the gland follower, reportedly guarantees low turning torque for manual operation. Automatic valve actuation can be fitted, if required whilst the valve is in service, thanks to the use of an ISO 5211 universal mounting pad. A proven anti-static device protects against electrostatic discharge.

Atostar valves are said to meet ASME, DIN and JIS standards and the range is available in port sizes from 25mm up to 100mm, with a choice of V-port or C-port balls.
