All-in-one coating for structural steel and machinery

All-in-one coating for structural steel and machineryKeywords: Coatings, Steel, Machinery, Corrosion protection

Interlac 789 from International Protective Coatings is described as a new all-in-one alkyd primer/finish coating for steel that combines anti-corrosion protection with a cosmetic finish.

The new coating has been developed for use directly on steelwork in mild industrial environments, where the cosmetic appearance of the finish is important. It is also believed to be ideal for smaller OEM items, which, although exposed to harsher environments, are regularly maintained.

According to IPC Interlac 789 is a high solids, high-build product, so specifications of 100-125ll (4-5mils) dft can be applied in a single coat. This reduces the number of coats required, cutting coating time and associated costs. The product's fast drying qualities are another time- and cost-saving feature.

Interlac 789 is supplied in almost any colour, using International's Chromascan remote colour-matching system, in any quantity from as little as five litres. This enables steelwork and machinery to be coated in shades to match corporate and design colour concepts.

The coating can also be delivered in bulk containers for easier application by automated spray systems, ideal for OEM yards, where the same coatings are used repeatedly. It also makes storage easier and minimises wastage.

International Protective Coatings, part of Akzo Nobel, develops and manufactures anti-corrosion and fire protection coatings for steel in all environments. Its products are used in the harshest offshore environments, on chemical and hydrocarbon processing plants, bridges, stadia and major infrastructure projects and for all types of internal steelwork.
