New chairman for Galvanizers Association

Galvanizers Association (GA) has appointed Robert Evans as its new chairman (Plate 2). He took the position at the Association's recent Annual General Meeting held at the Royal Aeronautical Society, London.

Commenting on his appointment, Robert said “The UK hot dip galvanizing industry is a significant industry with a turnover of more than £200 m. We protect a broad range of products across many industrial sectors including construction materials for high profile structures like the Wales Millennium Stadium.”

“I am very pleased to be taking over as Chairman at a time when sustainability is of growing importance to the construction industry. By any criteria galvanized steel is a highly sustainable product – not only does it last a very long time without maintenance, but at the end of its life it can be fully recycled.”

With 25 years experience in the galvanizing industry and currently managing director of Cardiff Galvanizers Ltd in Cardiff, Robert takes over as chairman of GA from Stephen Rankin who stands down after 2 years term of office.

Formed some 54 years back and based in Sutton Coldfield, GA represents the hot dip galvanizing industry in the UK and Ireland and manages a range of technical and marketing initiatives on behalf of its members. The Association actively supports and promotes the environmental performance of the industry.
