Syndev 8, a chemically resistant polymer, is one of the new Syndev range of silicone polymers now available from Merck Ltd.

Fluorosilicone elastomers are believed to be one of the most versatile and widely used polymers today and their chemical resistance is claimed to be crucial to protecting our environment from vapours and hazardous liquids. These high molecular weight rubbers are reported to resist attack from substances such as petrol, oil, aviation fuel, acids, and in some mediums are said to be completely inert, making them ideal for use in automotive and aerospace fuel systems, gaskets or as a sealant. Other diverse applications, from chemical processing to ink jet printing, require these polymers to protect electronics and other materials.

Syndev 8 consists of a two part black compound, which cures at room temperature or may be cured rapidly with heat. Packed in a user-friendly 1:1 mixpac, the side by side cartridges are claimed to provide quick airless dispensing. The high viscosity is also thought to lend itself to moulding of entire rubber components where solvent resistance is required.

All Syndev products can be used with P1 standard primer, for improved bond strength, or P6 advanced primer, where maximum adhesion is of critical importance.
