If all you want to know is the difference between the Internet, the World Wide Web and electronic mail, this is not the book for you. Mastering the Internet covers the technical aspects of the Internet (the global interconnection of networks and independently connected computers) and the World Wide Web (a collection of computers which store digital information and, using standard transmission method, transmit it over the Internet). There are sections on local area networks, Internet protocol, transmission‐control protocol, hypertext transfer protocol, intranets, hypertext mark‐up language, Javascript, Java and Windows NT/95. The target readership is students on information‐technology, electronics and computer‐science courses, rather than the novice who has just bought his or her own computer and wants to know how to operate it.
