electronica 2000 – continued growth for leading electronics fair

  • PCBs and power supplies now separate exhibition sectors.

  • NEW: electronica Arena information exchange and ZVEI Podium/

After a successful start following the move to the new Munich Trade Fair Centre in 1998, electronica continues to improve its standing. From 21-24 November 2000 the world's leading electronics exhibition will once again be the marketplace for innovations and trends. A more clear-cut breakdown of exhibits including three new sectors, brand-new "arenas" and a large number of exhibitors than ever before underscore the global significance of electronica.

More exhibitors and more exhibition space

More than 3,500 companies will present their products at electronica 2000. The number of international exhibitors is considerably higher than at electronica 1998.

This year's fair will also have more exhibition space than ever – a total of 160,000m2. This is because two new halls – C1 and C2, which will be finished in October of this year – will be available for use in time for electronica 2000. But despite the additional space, shortages have already been encountered in some exhibition sectors.

Sectors and hall assignments more distinct

The move to the New Munich Trade Fair Centre in 1998 meant a number of improvements for electronica. The amount of available exhibition space was increased, the fair was reorganized and the exhibition sectors and product-group categories were redefined. The restructuring process also made it possible to take current developments as well as the needs of the industry and visitors into account.

The evolutionary process is continuing. Thanks to the new sector for embedded systems and separate sectors for PCBs and other unloaded substrates and power supplies, the breakdown of exhibits at this year's fair will be more market-oriented and more clear-cut than ever. This, in turn, will make it easier for visitors to orient themselves quickly during the fair. The products from the electronics sector are now divided into ten sectors, and companies will present their exhibits in a total of 15 halls.

The new embedded systems sector is located in Hall A3, which also features sensors and microsystems as well as one of the brand-new Arenas. The semiconductor sector is in Halls A4 through A6. The manufacturers of displays can also be found in Hall A6. The exhibition sector for PCBs and other unloaded substrates will be in Hall B1. Another new sector, i.e. power supplies, will be next door in Hall B2. The manufacturers of electromechanical components and connectors can be found in Halls C1, C2, C3, B3 and B4, and passive components will be in Halls B5 and B6. ED/EDA products as well as measuring and testing technology will be on display in Halls A1 and A2. Finally, the sector the system components, which emphasizes housing technology and EMC, will be in Hall A2.

Information exchange, electronica arenas and the ZVEI podium

To satisfy the ever-increasing need for information and communication, electronica 2000 will feature a new highlight: located centrally in Halls A3 and C1 respectively, the electronica arena and the ZVEI podium will give exhibitors and visitors a number of excellent opportunities to gather information on and discuss the latest topics. The arena concept is an important addition to the exhibits at electronica. It gives exhibitors and visitors a platform for lectures, presentations and discussions on the exchange of ideas and information.

At the arena in Hall C1, the ZVEI (German Electrical and Electronics Manufacturers' Association) will hold the ZVEI podium, a diverse program of events featuring an international group of speakers representing the sectors for semiconductors, passive components, electromechanical components, PCBs, electronic assemblies and microsystem technology. There will be discussions, an innovation prize will be awarded, and one of the key topics will be "job profiles in the semiconductor industry".
