FeinFocus, USA, Inc., has introduced the new FXS-160.40 inspection system (Plate 3). This system is desired to meet the rigorous needs of the PCB manufacturing industry and is particularly well-suited for off-axis inspection of planar devices.

The new FXS-160.40 is designed for ease-of-use and is typically installed next to production lines for rapid random sample inspections. Since the sample can be precisely positioned with a simple mouse click on an on-screen camera image, cumbersome viewing windows have been eliminated and sample collision opportunities are avoided.

The system is assembled according to a new modular manufacturing principle with x-, y- and z-axes manipulation, tilt and rotate features, and the company's signature state-of-the-art X-ray tube. The detector can be rotated by 360° and angled up to 50° for complete oblique angle viewing without sample repositioning. The latest "high brilliance" X-ray tube design provides vibrant image resolutions to <2µm with geometrical magnifications up to 200x at any inspection angle.

The modular concept also permits easy front panel service access in a virtually maintenance-free design. A functional 18-inch flat-screen monitor and an elegant operating console complement this modern, ergonomically designed system.
