IPC has reported the findings from its IPC Printed Circuits Expow 2002 attendee survey. Exhibit Surveys, Inc., compiled the research report based on the responses of more than 478 attendees.

According to the report, 63 per cent of the attendees represented original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and printed circuit board (PCB) manufacturers. Eighty per cent of the audience consisted of middle management personnel, senior level managers and engineers.

Of these individuals, the survey reported that the average net buying influence at IPC Printed Circuits Expo 2002 was 81 per cent, which means that 81 per cent of the attendees recommend products or make final purchasing decisions for one or more of the products exhibited.

When asked their impression of IPC Printed Circuits Expo as a trade show where they can achieve their business goals, the majority of attendees (81 per cent) rated their impression of IPC Printed Circuits Expo 2002 as exceptionally good, with two-third of the attendees planning to attend again next year. The participants’ feedback concurred:

  • Overall, IPC Printed Circuits Expo 2002 demonstrated the will of the American PCB market to focus on core, high-tech business areas.” Tom Thieme, Atotech

  • I was able to meet some new people and network with many others at the show. Hopefully, more companies will recognize the benefits of allowing their personnel to attend IPC Printed Circuits Expo 2003.” David R. McGregor, E.I. duPont de Nemours and Co.

  • IPC Printed Circuits Expo 2002 provided a good forum for sharing the latest developments in embedded passive technologies, including new materials, equipment, and fabrication methods. The paper sessions on this topic were well attended and very informative. The standards development activities around embedded passives were also quite productive.” Bob Greenlee, Merix Corporation

  • IPC Printed Circuits Expo is the premier PCB show in the US, and critical to our sales and marketing success. From an exhibitor’s perspective, the show is a great value!” Dave Nottke, ESI

The survey also revealed that 81 per cent of the attendees came to IPC Printed Circuits Expo 2002 to keep-up-to-date on new products and technologies. In addition, an overwhelming majority (88 per cent) of the audience felt that the products and services they were most interested in seeing were well represented at the show with PCB materials, PCB processes, reliability process control, testing and HDI/microvia continuing to be the biggest draws. Thrity-six per cent of the respondents indicated that they plan to buy one or more of the types of products or services measured within 12 months following the exhibition.
