Conference planned to discuss the human aspects of disaster response

The Emergency Planning Society will be holding a major national conference during April 1999 to discuss the issues raised by their Guidance Document and to consider ways in which procedures can be improved and the numerous agencies involved can improve their responses. The conference will be attended by a broad cross section of agencies involved in the immediate and long-term response to disasters, including:

  • emergency services;

  • social services;

  • religious organizations;

  • lawyers;

  • insurance industry;

  • emergency planning officers;

  • local authorities.

The conference will be opened by the President of the Emergency Planning Society, Sir John Blelloch, and will be chaired by the former Lord Chancellor, Lord Mackay of Clashfern.
