Training Budgets: Are They Obsolete?
Abstract
Too often organisations look to performers when seeking to improve productivity. Instead, performance should be stressed, as 80 to 90 per cent of productivity improvement opportunity can be found in the work situation. Therefore, it is suggested that departmental training budgets should be replaced by company‐wide performance improvement budgets administered by a performance improvement manager. Opportunities to improve productivity can then be given priority on an organisation‐wide basis, shifting the emphasis away from the individual to the total work environment.
