ECONOMICS: OF CORROSION PREVENTION
Abstract
Any survey of papers written on corrosion and anti‐corrosion will show that the concentration is on the causes of corrosion and the development of methods and materials for corrosion prevention. Very few papers even mention costs, and certainly there seem to have been only a handful in the last thirty years that consider costs to the exception of the other factors. This means that there is a gap in corrosion investigation work, as anti‐corrosion systems can only be suitable if they produce savings over the basic method of replacement of the item when it has corroded.
