Abstract

Trade unions in India accept that large numbers of women have to work if they and their families are to survive. However, women are also expected to take responsibility for running the home and raising the children. Remedies proposed by‐trade unions have been aimed at helping the woman worker take on the double burden, rather than relieving her of part of it.
