Abstract

FRANCE Corrosion by heat‐transfer fluids. In a discussion of the corrosive effect of fluids used for conveying heat to a place of energy transformation, it was shown that, although water is, of course, the most obvious heat‐transfer agent, its use is limited by the comparatively low maximum temperature (about 180°C.) obtainable even with saturated steam or overheated water. Corrosion caused by heat‐transfer water and steam is avoided by raising the pH value through the addition of some sodium triphosphate and by adding cyclohexylamine or methylethanolamine at the steam generator. Ammonium sulphite is suitable for this purpose and it has one advantage in that there is no loss when it is used in a closed circuit.
