Abstract

Material Investigation. With all the subtle or manifest improvements to the already vast range of materials for use in corrosive conditions that are taking place, design engineers are or should be able to make the most of the increasing range of choice. The temptation to accept the sometimes excessively enthusiastic claims of manufacturers grows with the range of choice. It is a temptation to be overcome. Particularly suspect are the claims made by materials manufacturers involving adverse comparisons of other competitive groups of materials, since so often the conditions of testing may be set up to glamourise a particular material.
