Abstract

It is now a little over five years since the introduction of the first plastics‐coated sheet steel in Britain. Those benefits which were already apparent at the outset were enough to arouse considerable interest in many different fields but, despite this optimism about the possible advantages of the new material, a certain amount of anticipated caution was displayed because it was at that time untried. For example, one of the more important features claimed for plastics‐coated steel was increased resistance against corrosion, but at the time the extent of this resistance was not readily determined. However, as a result of experience gained under actual working conditions during the past five years it is now possible to assess reliably the various claims made for it.
