PUBLIC LIBRARY WORK BENEFITS SURVEY
Abstract
Beginning in 1985, HBW Associates Inc., Library Planners and Consultants, have conducted a biennial survey of public library work benefits. The survey covers salaries, hours of work, and benefits. The last category includes leave policies, pension plans, savings plans, insurance, and other miscellaneous benefits. The latest report, of the 1991 survey, includes comparative data from the previous three surveys. Quite apart from the value of the current information to library administrators, the changes shown in the 1985–1991 comparisons reveal important trends. Along with the derived general data, the report includes basic information (total budget, salary expenditures, percentages spent on salaries, and percentages for benefits) arranged by region, population served, and total budget. These appendices allow libraries that did not participate in the survey to find peer institutions.
