Abstract

This paper summarises the results from a study of the organisational aspects of newspaper production, which has been undertaken by using a multi‐method approach. The analysis is based on an organisational model which focuses on newspaper technology, newspaper environment and newspaper personnel. It shows how the characteristics of newspaper technology and newspaper environment put certain restrictions on the work of newspaper employees. These restrictions, in turn, create certain issues, i.e. issues concerning flow, technology, allocation and publication. These four issues as well as the various integrative mechanisms used to handle them are discussed in the paper.
