Abstract

A common feature of much research carried out in academic institutions is that it reflects more the interests of the researchers than it does the needs, concerns and problems of managers and management. At Thames Valley Regional Management Centre, we have tried to establish a balance between “self‐interest” based research, and research which addresses wider problems and issues. In order to check out our understanding of this balance, we carried out a survey among managers and management teachers in our Region.
