Abstract

Will move to Cardiff. Peter Shore, incoming Secretary of Trade received the proposal and upheld the decision. City Road will have improved facilities, which have been urged on the department since the decision to move was put to users for ‘consultation’. This has by no means mollified the opponents to the move, vociferously led by Peter Wilsher, editor of the Sunday times business news. Whilst this move does seem predominantly to the user's disadvantage, as librarians we may however gain some benefit. Whereas before there was only one hard copy file, in the future there will be six fiches available for viewing. Simply this means that there will be no waiting for a file, as six searchers will be able to review a company's files at once. Additionally, we who have fiche readers will appreciate the facility to purchase Companies House fiche, more than other searchers without inoffice readers. At least one fiche will be held back from the public search rooms. This means anything which previously tended to ‘disappear’ from hard copy files, can now be replaced instantly by processing more fiche copies. Without making much ado about this, Companies House may have put an end to some highly questionable user practices concerning the files of companies in the takeover arena.
