Abstract

The Building Research Station at Garston recently held a one day seminar on Developments in the protection of joinery. The country is currently spending in the region of £90 million a year on the maintenance of exterior joinery, and investigations are in hand to reduce this figure. The Paint Research Association, on behalf of the Building Research Establishment, has recently conducted an investigation into the interactions between wood properties, preservative types, paint systems and conditions of use, to establish the basic criteria for effective, commercial treatments for joinery components.
