Abstract
On this page in our June issue we commented on what appears to some to be over‐legislation in the sphere of health and safety at work and because of its time and money consuming influences, can even be said to retard research and development in many technologies. At the risk of appearing to be riding a hobby horse, we therefore found of considerable interest a report published last month in the British Medical Journal that the hazard from vinyl chloride monomer to workers employed in the manufacture of PVC or PVC products, and to the general public living around the plants, might not be as great as was first supposed. The report is written by Dr Peter Baxter of the Health and Safety Executive's Employment Medical Advisory Service (EMAS) and three other medical experts.
